This four-book series of natural history field guides is designed with young readers in mind and is specific to the Rocky Mountain region. The hundreds of full color photographs and dozens of illustrations in each guide make it perfect for children ages 6-12. While it is designed with young readers in mind, each book is packed with concise and intriguing information for the experienced naturalist, as well.

Author Garrick Pfaffmann has taught environmental education in Colorado for nearly 15 years and has taught both elementary and middle school for nearly 10 years. The information and layout of each book is a synthesis of his experiences with both the natural world and with a variety of educational settings.

Illustrator Hilary Forsyth studied both biology and artistic design with an eye towards scientific illustration. She also has nearly ten years experience teaching art to elementary and middle school students.
